Character notes for Gundam Wing:
I watched Gundam Wing all the way through, once in English and
then in Japanese. These are my collected random observations on the 14
main characters, the situations they go through, and their relationships
with each other according to what I observed as I was watching the
actual show; while I may reference the fandom or my own
interests and desires as a yaoi fangirl, I feel the conclusions I make
about the characters are free of those biases. Because these are
my personal notes they are occasionally repetitive and make references
to other anime or situations that I felt mirrored the ones happening in
the show; if you have a questions about something I said, let me
know but otherwise I hope this is thought provoking and possibly
insightful for whoever is interested in reading. Any factual
information I was unsure about, or any observations I felt were more my
projected opinion than justified by the text are marked by a question
mark (?).
I left everything in the order I wrote it, which isn't any particular
order except that Treize is my favorite character and is first, and the
pilots are "in order."

Treize
He is not certain that even he believes in his ideal/or he's not sure
it's something that is attainable. Acknowledges others views- even if he
doesn't accept them. Truly cares about Une. Recognizes that Relena is
right in her beliefs/ is what is needed for the future. Respects Heero
and other G-boys. Identifies/sympathizes with Zechs and his search for
truth on the battlefield; this may be what drew them together- or maybe Zechs
just
learned it from Treize. Has known Zechs a long time. Dislikes Dermail.
Respects Dorlian. Knows number of men killed on his behalf, and quite
possibly knows most of their names. Is loved/respected by his men.
Believes that the only way to get rid of war is to make people so sick
of it that they will never think of it again. So- desires peace, but
sees war as the only way to attain it lastingly. Is a good warrior.
Projects confidence- has charisma. Authorizes Une's attack on Relena,
likes to let her play; calls her off when Noin tells him about Relena &
Zechs. Frees his pet birds; they come back to him. Is very two faced...
when it suits his purposes; isn't so much about appearances as long
as the motive/purpose is true. T: Anyone can kill anyone, but we must not
abuse this. Lets WuFei live after beating him-
in return for being honorable enough to leave his Gundam and duel.
"Those who are hated must remain strong." (So, does being hated by WuFei
mean he has to remain strong?) Tells Romefeller: They must institute a
system that is above God. Thinks God is a figure created by humans.
Believes in allowing people to grow/learn from their experience (boy
falling in the water...) Tells Zechs to kill himself and become a war
hero rather than face court marshal. ("If you're dead, you'll be free")
Does not like the idea of Mobile Dolls; thinks they make war too
impersonal. Trusts Zechs as his right hand man; trusts that Zechs sees
things the same way he does/has the same priorities. ep22- Appears
surprised that Une welcomes the mobile dolls. (He forgives her her
mistake; lets her learn from this experience and become stronger.) Tells
Une wars will never disappear from the world, it is natural for people
to fight over who is strongest and it is right that the strongest should
rule. "People even take pleasure in being controlled by the strong."
Says that he is not strong. Says Zechs and the Gundam pilots are
fighting to create a new future. "Lady, please come back to me. The Lady
Une I was so fond of." Calls Milliardo his eternal friend. Claims he
doesn't have any more power in Romefeller and cannot change the (bad)
way everything is going. Asks Milliardo to save Une, because they are
the only two people in the world who understand him (Treize). Recognizes
that it's her feelings for him that have made Une bipolar. ep25- Breaks
with Romefeller. "I believe what mankind needs is not absolute victory
but a certain demeanor in fighting, an attitude towards it." He used to
think that the colonies' pacifism was stupid because they didn't
understand the tradition of fighting on the earth; but the Gundam pilots
have proved him wrong- "new warriors who surpass even my ideals." They
continue to fight, refusing to acknowledge that they've already lost- in
doing so, they win. "It's not that a pure person has no direction. It's
that their mind is free." ep28- Treize's flashback ep. "I was moved by
every action [the Gundams] took and could not remain still. I'm sure it
was the same for you Zechs Merquise." Tells Zechs to free the Sanc
Kingdom from the alliance's grasp so that he can fight with a pure
heart. T:"For defeated men like myself restrictions become the
foundation for new strength. But in my case I feel much freer, not
restricted. Perhaps until now I didn't experience freedom. Maybe my
latest move has allowed me a chance to step back and re-evaluate myself.
Just like you overcame the ordeal I put you through and earned your
freedom, Zechs." Says mobile dolls are "incapable of feeling a battle's
beauty or sorrow." Thinks the colonies pacifism is a sham. Une says that
Treize has had ties with the Sanc kingdom since his youth. "As long as
mankind exists in this world there will always be battles. And
denouncing battles will never lead to peace." Says seeing how the
Gundams have fought has changed his destiny. It's hard to see Treize as
someone having doubts, because he always looks so confident. But in this
ep... I think you can see it. I think the shooting of Une really got to
him. ep34- "The war won't end as long as I'm alive." Says that being
able to talk to Heero is the greatest happiness in his life. The Epyon
shows the pilot his future; there was no future for Treize to see. Epyon
eliminates distractions. T: There is nothing more beautiful than a
warrior with no distractions; one could say he's the closest thing to
god./H: I don't believe in god. Treize says that Epyon is not a weapon.
ep35- Pagan calls Treize the unifying power of Romefeller; without him
they don't have one. ep38- Thinks Romefeller is getting in over their
head appointing Relena. ep41- Takes over Romefeller? Calls her
Relena-chan. ?! (Or Relena-cho...) Looks younger. I think taking over
the world is good for the complexion... Tells Relena that she is
incapable of convincing Zechs of the error of his ways. Says that he
will be the head of Romefeller, she's free to go where she will. 42-
Tells Une that she never left his heart. He wants her to see what he's
about to do- a large battle is coming, a staring role in it would be too
much for Relena so he must take over. Relena can put the world back
together after he's done establishing its new future. Questions the
necessity of the world nation to the gathered heads. T: I say that this
is the time to unite as citizens of the world nation and answer this
threat from space! "Don't laugh at this Lady. I must put on a
performance if I am to help the people." The people unite under Treize
because they fear an attack from White Fang. 43- Says that Oz has
changed in his absence; he says they are no longer allowed to call
themselves Oz. Basically fires the people taking hostages on Catherine's
colony. 45- Treize looks very calm, but kind of... dead around the eyes.
I think he's foreseen his pending death, and accepts it as necessary.
46- T:"A War with no civility gives rise to massacres." Treize leads
from the front line, even though warned against it by his flunky. His
people have confidence in him, but have doubts about attacking such a
huge battleship as Libra. Meanwhile, some people on earth found Wing.
Treize isn't wearing a space suit in his Gundam, Tallgeese. Because he
likes looks over safety, or he already knows his fate and wants no
mistakes? I think, it's easier to move without it, and yes, he knows
he's going to die. Challenges Zechs to a duel. (meanwhile on earth Une
wakes up and... I think she steals Wing to go to Treize.) Zechs
refuses the duel, shocking all. Z:Chivalry is meaningless to me./T:You've made the correct choice...."We will not retreat, because I love
the earth." Zechs has Libra shoot at Treize, he's saved by Lady Une, tells
all units to attack Libra. 47- So, Treize (or his people) are fighting
to keep the fight away from the earth. Treize says he would thank the
Gundams for their help, when Une tells him they're fighting Epyon, but
realizes that they are not necessarily fighting for him. Thinks Zechs
told Libra to move around the battle to attack earth; commends this
move. Treize to Peacemillion: "I applaud your courage!" T:"This battle
will continue until every mobile doll is destroyed!" 48- More about how
without people, there is no soul to battle. WuFei is not impressed. Asks
WuFei why he's holding back- it's not like him. WuFei says he wants the
fight to be fair, asks Treize why he didn't kill him earlier. T:"I
couldn't kill one of the few people that understands me." WuFei is
still not
impressed. W:I despise you! Asks if Treize knows how many people have
died for him. Treize responds "as of yesterday, 99,822 people." Asks
Lady Une for the day's casualties. "How could I forget them?" Says that
none of these people have died in vain; mentally is already adding
himself to the list. Attacks WuFei, who responds instinctively and stabs
him right through. T:Thank you WuFei, my eternal friend. "Milliardo,
I'll be waiting on the other side."
Conclusions:
Treize is slightly delusional, but well-meaning (for whatever that's worth). Is a lot
younger than most people remember; I think remembering this helps
remember that he's very uncertain about what he's doing- that he also is
just looking for a dream to believe in, a right way and a cause to give
himself to. He knows what he believes but is very open to examining the
methods and ideas of others; is also quick to dismiss these ideas when he
finds them inadequate. He doesn't have too many qualms about using
people to accomplish a goal he sees as important. Does not let the
fact that he likes/respects people to interfere with his goals- even
when their goal is the same and only differing in method. Believes in
his methods, but also acknowledges the fact that he could be wrong.
Dedicated. Appreciates finding people who understand him. Is a pretty
good judge of character, but believes in the testing of the spirit in
battle to reveal people. Relies a little too heavily on this... but does
stop Zechs from blowing up Earth as a means of "finding himself."

Zechs
"Lightning Count." Is conflicted in his own beliefs. Is certain of
his own unworthiness- both as a Peacecraft and as a warrior. Is very
self-centered. Seems to know Treize very well- they are very attuned to
each other. Has a connection to Heero as the warrior that he couldn't
defeat- he has made Heero the ideal warrior that he must defeat in order
to prove himself to himself. Cares about Noin- but apparently not as
much as she does about him. Wants to protect Relena. Probably has
learned everything he knows about his abilities and beliefs from Treize.
Is still Milliardo, but sees the ideals of his former nation as
weak/ineffectual- believes that Treize is right in that the only way to
get rid of war is to make people sick of it. Takes far more drastic
measures than Treize. Has trouble with Tallgeese at first, but
eventually surpasses it and seems to really enjoy Epyon. Is "buried"
beside Treize. Bonds with Noin over getting their asses kicked by
the Gundams. Denies his feelings (toward Relena to Noin)- or rather,
denies that he has any feeling for Relena. ep7-wonders whether replacing
the Alliance with Oz will really change anything. ep8- personally kills
the dude responsible for leading the attack on the Sanc Kingdom.
Tallgeese responds to the skill of its pilot; its only weakness is that
its pilot is human. Zechs is scared... of his own inability? Thinks he's
a coward. Blames himself and his own inability to pilot the Tallgeese
for Otto's death. Believes himself unworthy to head the monarchy; thinks
Relena's the one for the job. ep10- doesn't like being called Milliardo.
As much as admits to Noin that he's obsessed with Heero. Is slightly
unnerved by Heero. Has a serious Hiei complex when it comes to his
sister. Hates to fight an opponent with a handicap. Feels he himself is
handicapped by the idea of a battle aesthetic, wants to fight like the
Gundams- without being handicapped by any sort of notion of... "fair"-ness?
no holding back. (I think he hates to fight an opponent with a handicap
because he seriously wants to die, and a handicapped opponent will not
be able to kill him.) ep17- Tells Noin to protect Relena. Is very, very
conflicted. (no shit Sherlock...) ep18- says that he cannot escape
from what Treize has planned for him. Tells Treize to stop following him
around(?) Says that when his mask breaks, he can no longer be Treize's
friend. Has charisma too- people keep throwing themselves in front of
bullets for him... Has very pretty eyes. ;b When his mask breaks he
says, "Zechs Merquise is dead." ep21- Returns to space, fights
Heero/Trowa in Mercurius/Vayate. Surrenders, introduces himself as
Milliardo. Comments that outer space is quiet. ep22- Milliardo meets
chilled-Une, says she/Oz might be on the right track for peace. M:"I
think I understand the implications of war." Is recognized as Zechs by
Nichol(?) and sundry. Old man says Zechs holds a great affection for his
homeland. bald man says that living in space makes people feel unstable,
so they attack Earth in search of a stable land. ep22- Milliardo says
that he wants to be part of the attack, he is admonished that a goodwill
ambassador cannot be a part of an attack. M:"I switch between two
identities. My experience in battle has taught me to be cunning."
Talking to himself: "Treize, I have no power. I can only walk the path
of a soldier." ep23- Claims it is impossible when he hears the Docs have
been executed. ep33- "The Lightning Count" is back with a new mask,
running around killing people- proving that mobile dolls are no match
for piloted suits. Rendezvous with Howard on Peacemillion. Zechs has
outgrown the Tallgeese; he needs a shinier suit. Asks (the not present)
Relena to forgive him; says his actions are in the best interest of the
Sanc Kingdom. ep34- saves Zero from being detonated, and exchanges it
for the Tallgeese. (everyone gets a kick out of that separating beam
cannon...) Howard says that "Zechs, no Milliardo" is a perfect warrior
and should be able to avoid falling into the trap that is Zero. He says
Zechs is a Peacecraft and will guide people to peace. ep35- Zechs freaks
out when using Zero against WuFei and damages Peacemillion. He believes
WuFei is NOT his enemy; WuFei disagrees. ep36- Zechs gets back too late
to prevent the collapse of the Sanc Kingdom. He and Heero have it out...
Dude, Zero vs. Epyon- It's like fighting a mirror. And they both
spontaneously combust rather than fight each other. Sit and talk for
awhile; trade Gundams. Heero wants Wing back, Zechs agrees that Treize
would have trusted the Epyon to him. Z:"Treize, I thought I'd chosen a
different path from you. Allow me to use your Epyon!" ep39- Milliardo
says that with the Sanc Kingdom destroyed his war is over, he has
nothing to protect. "Once again I've lost any reason to fight." He is
approached by White Fang, and decides to head their group. He wants to
blow up earth, as the source of space's conflict (?!?) ep41- Milliardo
is reluctant to sit back and let dolls do the fighting for him even
though he's the leader of White Fang- his lieutenant says that Zechs still
thinks of himself as the Lightening Count. Epyon has a whip... Calls
MD's worthless dolls, "no enemy of mine." his lieutenant (name?) says
that the Gundam is their symbol. Doesn't listen to Noin. Destroys Barge-
"We have no need for you in Outer Space!" This makes him- leader of
White Fang- de facto king of outer space. M: To end war we need and end
to earthlings! Treize: "You're not wrong." R:Onii-sama...(now and
throughout) M:The colony citizens are a new breed of human who can
control their baser instincts to fight. Demands that the earth cease to
exist or else he'll be forced to start a "war to end all wars."
Milliardo doesn't look surprised to see Relena, Dorothy says she was
expecting the other girl but that she's too late (to change anything). M
fires Libra, almost hitting Relena, at the Earth. (Heero and Fei saw
this coming... everyone else thought Libra was firing at the colony.)
Hits the Earth- his formal challenge to Treize (leader of the world
nation). Calls the Gundams "the most annoying and fearful enemy in the
universe." 44-Tells Relena that she's grown up strong, but that her
strength is no longer needed. "I want you at least to remain kind."
Looks kind of pissed when Relena says she can't tell if he's the kind
Milliardo she once knew or the bloodstained Zechs. Asks Quinze if he thinks
he's weak. Q:If you hadn't been looking out for someone, I never would
have wanted you to be our leader. 44- breaks off battle with Heero to
chastise Dorothy. Heero says that according to Zero, Zechs has no
future. H:Is Epyon telling you differently? (Is that it? He fights
this way and does stupid stuff because he has no future?) 46- Zechs pulls
a "join me and together we can rule the galaxy" on Heero... o.O
I'm not sure he really wants to destroy the earth... he says that without
fighting no one will realize how stupid fighting is. Kinda like
Treize... So he's taking on Treize because he thinks it's what Treize
wants? M:"I've been trying to shed this gentle nature of mine." Doesn't
understand the concept of not using a hammer to kill a flea. It's
Dorothy and Une that stop Zechs and Treize from their stupidity.
Milliardo looks pissed. 47- Zechs is a bad commander; he keeps leaving
to settle private scores. But he's not bad when it comes to one on one
confrontation (or close to it...) He knows to go after Quatre when
fighting the Gundams. Z:Crush the brain first. Has three virgos(?)
working together to create a shield for him. Turns aside from attacking
Peacemillion in order to not kill Noin; calls himself spineless. 48-
Goes on about something about being destined... (something about a
destiny of blood) 49- Duels with Heero. Still wants to crash Libra into
the earth... Noin observes that he's intending to single-handedly with his
own life pay for the sin of purging humanity. Observes that Heero
probably has figured this out as well. Zechs prevents Heero from self
destructing to blow up Libra, doing it himself. Noin believes he is
still alive.
Conclusions:
I think Zechs hates himself. He realizes that he has a gift for killing
that goes against everything his family believes in and everything he
was raised to believe. He's the kind of
person who cannot stand aside, who has to act, but he doesn't know what
to do. He doesn't understand people or peace. I'd love to know what
exactly happened to him the day Sanc was destroyed... because I think a
lot of his neurosis stems from that. He sees himself as a failure, both
as a human being and a warrior, and wants to die. But he's the really
annoying kind of character that can't just off himself and has to drag
the entire galaxy into his personal problems (Dammit, Toguro). I can't remember if it was
him who said that the Gundams were looking for a place to die, but
that's what he's doing. He keeps trying to give himself to causes, but
he outlives all of his causes and is left again with nothing- nothing to
fight and nothing to protect. He can't exist with nothing. And that's
why he keeps proposing outrageous plans, like blowing up Earth. He's
like a child that's waiting for someone to tell him "no," to tell him what
to do. But no one he respects will do it. Treize is probably the only
one he respects and would listen to, but Treize tells him to follow his
own path. So he starts to actually believe his own bullshit. (Heero he
respects too, but Heero also won't tell him what to do.) So Zechs is
what happens when people who aren't good at deciding for themselves are
thrust into positions where they have to. In the end I think he learns
from Heero... No, wait. I think he just sees a chance to finally get
himself killed for a good cause. Cause someone has to do it, Relena's
gonna hate it either way, and he'd rather it was him.

Relena
Is strong in her ideals, but has moments of weakness when she is unable
to protect others. She has faith in what she believes but is hurt when
others don't seem to acknowledge the truth of it- especially those close
to her (i.e. Zechs, Heero). Gets "disapproving mom" tone when saying
Milliardo toward end of series in the English... also used toward Heero
in the beginning/middle. Meets other pilots- seems to connect with Quatre.
"Star Prince" complex- planted by Zechs (Ep.0), attached to Heero.
Surrounded by respect, but doesn't have anyone who's really close to her
(lots of -sama). She is fully capable of taking command when she
feels it necessary. Has a bit of a complex about her dad. Says that it's
safer on the colonies than on earth. Believes that killing cannot end
killing. When her dad dies, feels a kind of suicidal attraction to
Heero- she wants to die, living is too hard. She wants also to feel
alive/find a reason for herself to keep herself alive- a cause. Is
a natural leader- cares deeply about others/those under her protection
(sees everyone as under her protection). Is not afraid of Heero. Is not
afraid of much of anything. Personally I think she starts following
Heero around cause she's bored. and he's cute... and she probably wants
something else to think about than her dad's death, and everything it
means for her. Plus, add in the whole Star Prince deal- there's no way
she couldn't chase him around the world. She admires Heero's strength.
Marquis Weridge calls her "granddaughter." Treize and J both compare
Relena to Heero. She reads Heero's mail; no concept of privacy? Stupidly
puts herself in the middle of a testosterone battle... ep27- flashback ep. Relena wonders how long it will be until she will see Heero again.
She believes he will come to Sanc. Says that her childhood was a world
of happiness, ignorant of the world's troubles. R:"But meeting him
greatly changed my destiny." Hmm- Heero's "I'll kill you" was uttered in
response to Relena's "Why (did you tear up the invitation)?"
She hasn't seen Heero or Zechs since Antarctica. ep29- says that people can't be given
complete freedom; they need to respect each other. R to Pagan about
Dorothy:"Doubting people won't get you anywhere." Relena asks Dorothy to
call her just Relena (vs. Relena-sama) but Dorothy refuses. ep30- Relena
has that sad look about her, the one that peaceful people get when they
look at this world. She's happy to see Heero again, but she's definitely
grown up a bit since the last time she saw him. 31-the glass kingdom,
because peace is fragile as glass. ep33- Relena seeks out Heero, who's
reading on a park bench, while two butterflies dance the metaphorical
dance of attraction... Relena tries to psychoanalyze Heero; Dorothy
interrupts. (Relena has the pained look of long suffering.) Dorothy
delivers Romefeller's invitation to Relena. Supposedly, they want to
learn more about her pacifist ways, and want her to come to their
conference (in Bremen). Despite Noin's objection, Relena goes alone in
Dorothy's pretentious car. She secures Heero's promise to let her know
before he leaves town again. ep34- says that if the man piloting the
mobile suit does not call himself Milliardo, then he is not her brother.
"He has nothing to do with the Sanc Kingdom." When she walks outside,
she says to herself that Zechs knew her response, and this is why he
fights as Zechs (not Milliardo). Relena's car is wrecked by mobile dolls
attacking; she is saved by Noin and Quatre. Pagan is hospitalized. Relena has
doubts... If her theory is so great, why does she need people to keep
saving her?? Quatre pep talks her; she needs to achieve peace so that
they have a place to live someday. ep36- Relena looks very determined.
She surrenders to Romefeller; if she has become the reason for war, she
will remove that reason. She has tea with Dermail. And she has a bad
case of Escaflowne nose... Dude, she looks really pissed that Dermail
outmaneuvered her- she doesn't like being used. ep37- she consents to
being Romefeller's representative; she believes there is no other option
open to her. ep38- Relena's feeling lonely. ...I think Heero can
actually hear her say his name. ep39- Marquise Weridge stands up for
Queen Relena's authority in Romefeller, saying Dermail should step down.
Relena's severe Escaflowne nose saves her from being assassinated by
Heero. That, or her moving speech about coexistence. 41- Still with the
"Onii-sama" to Zechs, but
she disagrees with his tactics and is resolved to fight him. Gets
dismissed by Treize, Pagan's waiting for her. Is still being stalked by Dorothy. 42- Goes to Libra. Worries that she won't be able to follow in
her father(Dorlian)'s footsteps. Tells herself she'll need strength to
save the Earth. Relena thinks to herself that she is the only one
capable of stopping Milliardo, even though Treize told her she couldn't.
44- Tells Dorothy that she doesn't want to persuade Mil, but convince
him. Dorothy suggests she shoot Mil to obtain peace- R:True peace cannot
be obtained through assassination. (looks very very serious) 46- Is
surprised but happy to see Heero again. R:You give me hope to keep
living. H: Don't make me repeat myself; I'm nothing compared to you. 47-
Relena still wants to talk to Zechs, Heero tells her it won't work. Gets
new professional haircut as Vice Foreign Minister Dorlian. Is a colony to
earth to colony representative. Doesn't have time for her birthday
party, too much work to do. Gets her teddy bear from Heero, tears up
card. "Next time give it to me in person!" He smiles. She smiles. The
end.
Conclusions:
Relena is innocent in a lot of ways. I don't think she understands people
very well. She is good as getting them to do what she wants/inspire
them, perhaps because she doesn't comprehend why they would do
otherwise. People look to her for hope and guidance, but I don't think
they understand how much she needs to have someone for her to look to.
Heero fills this role, and I think her Dad(Dorlian) does too. They are
her role models- people who do what needs to be done despite the
consequences to themselves. She is pure and honest in her beliefs, and
she believes them very strongly- with her whole being. I think this is
what makes her so persuasive, such a role model. But she is still a
14(?) year old girl- it's a lot of pressure. Especially because she
feels for people so deeply but isn't really personally close with anyone. She
gets lonely sometimes, and this leads to
depression and the onset of "teenage girl hormonal decision-making." In short,
she's the perfect person to build the future around, but it is a VERY
hard role for her. As for her and her brother, his first and main cause he gives
himself is to protect her. But later on when she conflicts with his
other missions, he does endanger her. So, he's mentally unstable, and he
sees her as the perfect child. I think he's a little scared of her...
or rather he's scared of himself around her, of tainting her (Dammit,
Hiei). He doesn't mind
being hated by her, because he hates himself. He does mind her putting
herself in harms way to come yell at him. She doesn't want him to die, particularly not at Heero's hand-
a change from earlier in the series. I think the deepest part of their
relationship is that he think of himself as unworthy and of her as
perfect; her feelings for his are far less polarized.

Heero
Raised as an assassin. Devoted to his cause. DOES have emotions... does
not let them interfere in his duty. most of the time... Is really guilt
stricken after Treize manipulates him into killing Noventa. Only really
is able to succeed when he realizes his life has meaning. Connection
with Trowa? Is not particularly attached to Wing- or, maybe sees Wing as
the source/reason behind his mission (which he's not particularly
enamored of, even if he is devoted) and that's why he keeps trying to
destroy it. Resourceful. Relena's voice makes him open his
parachute.>He's already realized that she's what he's fighting for(?)
Doesn't know what to do with Duo- he talks too much. Doesn't understand
Duo. Laughs maniacally. Never introduces himself to Duo (or the other
Gundams?) Is stunned into inactivity by his killing of the alliance
leaders; snaps out of it when Sally gives him something to do, and then
berates himself over it, hunting down ALL of Noventa's family and
apologizing. ep9- doesn't overtly object to Duo's familiarity, but
doesn't understand him. ep11- Thinks Catherine is Relena when he wakes
up from being unconscious. Makes Trowa laugh by telling him that dying
hurts like hell. Advises Trowa to follow his emotions. (I think
to Relena's class is the only time he introduces himself in the whole
series.... Then Relena just keeps telling people his name.) ep16- Zechs
was the first person he shook hands with. Accepts help from Trowa. ep18-
end, Heero's big speech on the meaning of life. He enrolls in school
under Duo's name. Goes to kill Duo when Duo is captured; doesn't, and helps
Duo escape. Didn't have an plan for getting out. (Thanks, Han Solo. ;b)
Is borderline obsessed with destroying things/removing the evidence.
Says that he will "remove all obstacles," but doesn't kill Duo. (>or
Relena when she places herself in his way.) ep23- Sally finds the Gundam he abandoned when he went back
into space; she says the Gundams will build the foundations of the new
future (I don't think Heero would agree...) ep24- Heero is suspicious of
Zero/Quatre. ep26- Heero asks the Docs about Trowa. (because he knows
Quatre wants to know?) When he is put in Zero, for Trant to test the
system, goes nuts. Quatre recognizes that while under the influence of
Zero, Heero is not himself. (Q:"Heero ja nai!") H:"My enemies are the
people after my life, and those that toy with my life." =>Docs Even
though Quatre tries to warn him, Heero gets totally sucked into Zero. Q:
"We aren't needed in outer space!" ->This hits Heero- he realizes that
he's fighting Quatre. Q:"We mustn't fight each other." Almost throws up,
falls out of zero, sees Relena (?) Heero is glowing... o.0 ep27- (in the
beginning) says he has one mission, to destroy OZ. Lists Trowa, Quatre,
Wufei, and then Duo as the other Gundams. I never noticed how young he
looks when threatening Relena... H:"I don't consider the other Gundam
pilots my comrades. I never had any comrades from the start. Like Relena
this guy who calls himself Duo is merely an obstacle to my mission." She
wants to be close to him, because she wants to be strong/focused like he
is. He has to run away because she confuses him. Heero calls his battle
with Zechs in Antarctica meaningless. "Between a man looking for
something to protect and a man who had lost all means to protect."
ep29-back on Earth, Heero plays pineapple fetch with puppies. Encourages
Quatre to play with puppies. H:"Wherever I go it's the same because
fighting is all I can do." Heero calls Quatre his partner; advises
Romefeller dudes to surrender to him. H:"Personally I would have already
opened fire." Heero and Quatre take over/abduct an entire cruiser,
forcing the entire crew to evacuate. H to Q:"Because we're Gundam
pilots, the battlefield is the only place we're allowed to live." ep30-
Heero hires out as a mercenary to the Treize Faction. Alters his mission
to protect some civilians. Heero says he will fight as his retaliation.
I think he's feeling a little lost... Quatre and Noin give him direction
>to protect the Sanc Kingdom. Dude, Noin's following them around...
ep31- Heero wants to leave the Sanc Kingdom ASAP, to protect Relena
(with his absence). He says Relena doesn't need the Gundams. Pagan calls
him yasashii. Heero introduces himself to the class. Heero thinks Dorothy
is freaky(IMHO). H:"There is no place for pacifism in my mind." ep33-
breaks his promise to Relena, and heads off to Luxembourg. ep34- Is
about to die, has Relena-vision. Sneaks into Treize's "castle" (?) Says
that fighting is his concern, peace just an outcome. "Whoever stands
before me and tries to kill me [is my enemy]." Treize says his battles
will never end, because he is fighting his own destiny. Treize says
Relena is stronger than Heero. Treize says that Heero is like him- a
soldier prepared to die but not knowing what to fight for. To give Heero
direction, Treize gives him Epyon. ep34- Heero says Epyon is just like
Zero. He wonders who his enemies are, and again decides it is anyone who
stands in his way. He sees his "future"- Lux(or some place) in flames.
Passes out at Treize's feet. ep35- Isn't comfortable being a symbol.
ep36- says that total pacifism is impossible, but it gives people hope
that they need. Noin asks him what his hope is; he says he just wants to
fight against those who conquer. Noin wants Quatre to come back....
(because he's easier to talk to than Heero, or because that means extra
manpower?) ep36- Heero is yelling at Epyon, who's being contrary...
Heero is having issues... And he flies away. ep39- And Heero's back on
his kill Relena kick. If she dies, then so does the false peace and the
world nation. Changes his mind when he hears her talking about Earth and
space coexisting. ep41- tells Zechs-on-TV that Zechs has chosen one of
the futures that Epyon showed him, saying that of the futures Zero
showed him he has chosen the one that will bring him in conflict with
Zechs. 41- Sally gives Heero Heavyarms to return to Trowa. Heero is
surprised that she seems to know where Trowa is. Sally notes that Heero
seems different, less abrasive. 43- Knows that Relena is in space? Says
that they (Peacemillion & Gundams) aren't the only one who can stop
Libra. 44-Heero has Howard install Zero on Sandrock, because he believes
Quatre can handle it. And he knows Quatre needs to be the leader, cause
he'll be too busy fighting Epyon. (Cool galaxy background... heart of
outer space and all that.) 45- Hilde tells Duo tells Heero that Relena
is on Libra. R&H do that cool, "I heard you whisper my name halfway
across the galaxy and now I respond" thing. 46- Heero goes to her, the
other G-boys debate his sanity. WuFei says he thought better of Heero
than to go after a woman. Trowa tells him to be nice to Relena- women
are sensitive. Duo asks Quatre when they're going to go after Heero.
Duo: Heero makes mistakes too you know!(silence) Relena is surprised to
see Heero, but says she can't leave. H: You have to talk to Zechs? I
have to see him too. 47- Heero and Relena debate: Relena says only
dictators think lives need to be sacrificed in order to achieve peace;
Heero tells her that Zechs and Treize are willing to sacrifice their own
lives, and that's why he's not going to stop them. Heero says (roundaboutly)
that he will protect Relena because he owes it to Zechs. Meanwhile the
G-boys debate what side to join. They decide to join Treize, because
Libra doesn't represent all the colonies and is now the largest threat
in space. 47- Heero says that without the cannon Zechs won't have his
victory. 48- gets all shiny eyed with Relena, tells her that he will get
Zechs, get Treize, and then she (if she survives) can make peace on
Earth, and his objective will be fulfilled. He's very misty eyed when he
pushes her away so he can take off. Asks her to trust him; She says she
does. H:"Sayonara, Relena." She kind of freaks out when he says that...
She realizes he's on a suicide mission. 49- Tells Zechs that he hates
weak people... them observes that all of humanity is weak. "And that
includes you and me!" The Colonies representative accepts The World
Nation's/Une's surrender and rejects White Fang and fighting for any
reason hoping that the world nation will follow suit. The Docs succeed
in moving Libra, but a piece of it is still falling toward earth. Zechs
says he doesn't accept that he is one of the weak. Relena does not like
her brother and her crush engaged in mortal combat. Heero takes off Epyon's arm, saying he doesn't kill Zechs because Relena would be sad.
Asks for Zero to guide him, WuFei shows up and tosses him his huge,
ass-kicking rifle. Prepared to take down the large chunk of Libra
remaining. R:"Heero can give everyone hope." Heero:"I will... I will...
I will survive!" Takes out Libra. Reappears to the tune of Wild Beat
Communication. Quatre: "I get it, Heero himself is the heart of outer
space."
Conclusions:
Heero is very good at reading people and understanding them, when it comes to
war; he gets better as he goes at applying this to non-wartime
situations. Doesn't understand the need of
people for other people at first, but also learns to understand this-
this goes along with his developing understanding of Relena and peace.
Is dedicated in his mission to obtain peace, but at first doesn't really
understand the whys. Is scared of Relena at first, the purity of her
desires, but understands that this is what he is fighting for. At first
is very suicidal, but realizes the importance of life- particularly his
own. So, at first only understands people as an abstract concept in
relation to war, but learns to accept and value them for themselves.

Duo
He likes being part of a group. Wants to take on the power of death by
naming himself such- sees death as the only real power in his life.
Respects/likes Heero, connected to him because he was the first other
Gundam he met? Doesn't seem to understand Heero very well... Connects to
Quatre- they are both "people persons." Is respectful of women (Relena).
Is actually really ineffectual when it comes to fighting. Maybe because
he believes in people too much? / or at least people he's met before or
who he thinks he knows. Talks a lot- because he's afraid of silence? Or
because it's a way of affirming to himself that he's still alive? Thinks
Heero should enjoy life more. Is pleased that Heero remembers his name.
Wants to return to space. (Trowa seems to have a thing about shooting at
Duo... ep7 shoots him with missiles when they first meet, blows up
Deathscythe later when he's undercover...) Claims he never lies. Hates
letting other people fight for him/feeling useless. Heh- Gives Quatre
flowers. Takes betrayal personally. Takes the death/leaving/betrayal of
friends VERY personally. Is very attached to Deathscythe- talks to him
soothingly before he gets blown up... (ep 20) Is afraid of dying/doesn't
want to die (ep 19)- will attempt suicide, by Heero's example, because
he feels he should/needs to but is happy when it doesn't work. Is still
probably the worst fighter/planner of the five. Ep 19/20- still enjoys
being part of a group/team, likes working with Heero. ep23- Realizes he
and Hilde are fighting for the same thing, so they shouldn't be enemies.
(Hilde just wants to kill him.) D:"You're so intense it makes me sick."
He saves her. Gets captured again. Hilde reminds him of his younger,
more reckless self. He can escape from handcuffs. Gets shot down on the
moon... Gets saved by Hilde. Infiltrates Lunar Base with intent to
destroy. Meets up with Docs. Allows himself to be captured in order to
protect the secret that the Docs are rebuilding Deathscythe and Shenlong.
Believes that not screaming when he is struck makes him a "real man."
Joins the club- Heero and WuFei are also captured. Doesn't doubt Trowa- believes that Trowa will not betray them. ep24- Is happy Quatre
is "back"- (likes being a part of a group). Accepts death; doesn't want
to die alone. Takes heart from WuFei's calmness in the face of
death/belief that death will not come. Deliberately provoked Trowa in
order to provide cover for exchange of contraband? ep32- Deathscythe
Hell makes first appearance... I think Duo's improved. Or DHell is shiny
as all get out. Duo is abducted by Trant to guinea pig Zero for him.
Zero shows Duo his enemy is Deathscythe. He gets those "dead inside"
eyes. Hallucinates he destroys the colony and Hilde(?) Trant takes Zero,
leaving Duo drifting in space; Hilde picks him up, towing DHell. Duo
tries to stop Trant, before Zero makes him crazy. (I think it's a bit
late for that..) DHell, btw, has wings that fold like a bat. Dude, Duo
sounded just like Heero before he pretended to self detonate. D:"If
anyone were capable of handling [Zero], he'd be superior to the entire
human race." ep36- Duo talks to some rebels, tells them to get back to
him when they figure out what they want to do. Hilde takes him to see
the circus. Trowa's circus... Duo confronts Trowa, is scared off by
Dragon-Catherine. (grrr...) ep38- Duo's really gotten a lot more
introspective; Hilde's noticed. Looks pleased that he might seen Quatre
again. Duo has a bit of a martyr complex- he's sad/angry that White Fang is
starting a war because he feels it's his place to "suffer" the effects
of war to protect the colonies. ep39- Duo does not respond well to
threats. Tells Hilde not to join White Fang/the army. Says he's not
doing what he's doing to get a reward/recognition. Saves Trowa's butt
(the guy who destroyed Deathscythe). Joins up with Quatre, Noin, and
Trowa. 41- goes with Quatre & Noin to see Zechs. 43- Tells Heero he has
to be crazy to fly/bring along Zero. H:"I never asked you to pilot it."
Basically he tells Duo he can't hack Zero. D:"I almost forgot what you're
like." 45- Rescues Hilde when she escapes from Libra with information,
takes on Mercurius and Vayaete alone. For all me, and Heero, ragging on
him, Duo does take out both of them by himself. "Next time try
programming in my data!" ;b Calls Hilde a baka for risking her life to
bring them the data; she says she figured he'd say that. 47- on Libra,
Duo finds the Docs. 48- Remarks that the earth is becoming unified;
wonders if Relena is behind it.
Conclusion:
Duo sees himself as a scapegoat/martyr, the one sacrificed for the good for
the whole. He likes being with people, in a group, and believes in people and
their inherent goodness. Is usually a rather ineffectual warrior,
possibly because of this belief and also because on a personal level he
doesn't like conflict. Is scared of being alone, and also of being powerless-
death is the highest power he recognizes. Isn't really deeply
philosophical- doesn't try to understand other people (like Heero). He
doesn't get Heero, or WuFei really, but he doesn't really worry about it as
long as he can be with the others.

Trowa
He communicates well with animals- perhaps because they don't have
pretenses(?). Lack of fear- he doesn't fear death, because his life has
no meaning. Destroyed Deathscythe as undercover soldier. Talked Quatre
out of Zero, seeing Quatre again makes him want to go with him. Zero
shocks him out of his amnesia. Heero tells him to follow his emotions.
Really cares about Catherine. It's snowing when he joins the circus in
ep 2. He is ruthless in battle. Assesses the strength of his opponent
and acts without undue emotion. Makes beautiful music with Quatre...
Quatre observes that he's not the talkative type. Is put off by
Catherine's forwardness- kinda like Heero and Duo. Looks seriously
displeased to see Quatre again in ep 7, but does work with him (maybe
cause he can't get rid of him... ;b). Appears willing to sacrifice
potential allies in order to achieve his objectives/mission. Is very
similar to Heero in this regard; Duo/Quatre are their foils in many
ways. Hangs out with WuFei after Treize fiasco (because he knows WuFei needs
somewhere to go? or because he recognizes what it's like to feel
terrible because you messed up/lost?). Really gets along with Heero-
(the first [only?] time he laughs). Heero tells him to follow his
emotions. Gets pissed when Catherine's in danger. Catherine's tears stop
him from self-destructing; he tells Heero that Heero is strong, that
Heero wouldn't have let that stop him. Heero tells him again to follow
his emotions. ep14-still paranoid about being seen. Talks more around
Heero. Trusts Heero. (They understand each other.) Lets Heero pilot his Gundam. Calls Noin's soldier weak for sacrificing the mission for his
feelings toward his superior officer. ep17- says that though the battle
will be hard, he senses peace in their five hearts. Can walk on a wire
like it's a broad street. Makes a good turncoat: sacrifices
everything(?) to the cause- blew up Deathscythe (but it's just a robot
and it was a test of loyalty), captured Heero (but that was obvious).
Cries when he destroys Deathscythe- T:What is that? My tears? Tells off Une, unnerves her- talks shit to Docs (J is impressed). ep 19- Une calls
him the perfect soldier. ep21- Convinces Une to let him use the captured
Heero's piloting skills to test the Mercurius/Vayate. Is somehow
connected to Une... (ep.0?) Cancels Nichol's orders to destroy the colony
saying that Une would not want it. Believes Zechs will understand why Oz
didn't just take over the colonies when they had the chance. Makes a
very good long term deep undercover agent. ep24- When he goes to pick up
Heero to fight Zero he punches Duo, slipping him some specs/stuff for
him and WuFei to look at. Plans to join with Quatre/Zero and attack Oz.
Heero cautions him, saying it might be better for him to stay with Oz
until he can get to Treize. T:"You knew." Trowa is confident that
meeting Quatre again will be a good thing. ep24- Observes that
destroying colonies is not in Quatre's usual behavior. Says that,
fighting to believe in himself, he will kill Quatre. ep35- Trowa
reappears, meeting Catherine on the street in the rain. Doesn't appear
to recognize her. She takes him in; the Ringmaster and her try to
protect him from the Gundams. ep38- Trowa thinks Quatre looks familiar
even through his amnesia. Tells Catherine (Nee-san) that he'll protect
her. T: "He's calling me... I can tell. He's crying." Aww- The only
thing he remembers is Heero telling him to act on his emotions. Dude,
Trowa with no memory looks a hell of a lot sadder than Trowa when he
could remember his crappy life. He says he feels comfortable around
Quatre & Noin. This makes Quatre very happy. ep39- Trowa likes borrowing
mobile suits. First Heero's, now Noin... I guess because Heavyarms is so
crappy, or never there... He seems to remember how to pilot pretty darn
well... But he is still besieged by the curse of Heavyarms. 41- Is
distressed when Barge's canon hits a colony. 43- Recognizes Heavyarms(?)-
knows that it was his Gundam. WuFei tells him he's a liability on the
battle field; Trowa thinks maybe Fei's right. Recognizes Catherine among
Oz's hostages. "Borrows" Zero. Calls Catherine Nee-san. Zero shows him
killing Catherine. Quatre stops him from doing this, destroying the MS.
Trowa remembers everything... "You're right Quatre. We both have people
to protect." Quatre is very happy that Trowa remembers. While Q&T were
reminiscing, Deathscythe saves the hostages. 47- Gives the flunkies
trying to kill him his sexy death look. 48- Is going to Quatre. Meets
Duo, they wish mentally for the other one not to die. Gives Heavyarms
this creepy look... Almost like the "I feel like I'm never gonna see her
again" look. 49- sabotages Libra, talks to Dorothy. Says he has to keep
surviving because he has a home to go back to. She responds that she had
no home. Quatre tells Trowa to take care of Dorothy and not worry about
him, Trowa says she can take care of herself. Dorothy tells them to not
get killed. Says Heavyarms taught him to never give up till the end.
Conclusions:
Trowa is a lot like Heero in many ways, the main difference being that
Trowa is fearless because- even more so than Heero- his life has left
him with nothing to lose. He is reserved and observant,
but throughout the series begins to truly understand the importance of
people and their lives. I think he understands people and their feelings
more than he lets on but he just isn't sure how to express his own
feelings. Heero is his role model.

Quatre
Built/designed Zero. Is caught unawares by it, thus most destructive.
Has Maguanacs that follow him' people who follow him love him/ respect
him- kinda like Treize. Has a knack for leadership/ (directing)- needs
Zero to make it work on battlefield? Doesn't like being alone in a
cause. Connected to Trowa. Trowa talks him out of Zero, with some minor
help from Heero, and it is Quatre that inspires Trowa to come back to
the G-boys even though he doesn't remember anything. Thinks earth is
beautiful. Recognizes a battle he can't win/isn't supposed to fight when
he meets Trowa. (theme song plays... Because this is "Wild Beat
Communication," the recognition of a kindred soul.)(lol, they have
kyrumption: "when two great heroes meet on the field of battle and
recognize their mutual fate.") Gets conniving look on his face
when he says he wishes Trowa would attack (cause then he'd get to see
him again). Also (with Sally) believes in Heero's infallibility. Is a
strategist. Gets browbeaten by his men for going off on his own. The
"soul of outer space" speaks to him... o.O The Gundams need his
organizational abilities to succeed in their mission. Introduces himself
to Duo, Duo recognizes his name. ep10- thinks Heero is the perfect role
model. Hates letting other people fight/die for him. Doesn't want to
fight/kill people. Doesn't mind betrayal as long as there's someone
still on his side. Sandrock talks to him.... o.O ep21- His family
supports the new spirit of the colonies, his dad "confronts Oz on behalf
of the colonies but always acts as a pacifist". Dad- says war is a waste
of time. Thinks Quatre should listen to him. Sister is Irea, a doctor.
says sisters are "all rooting for [you]" and dad is too. Dad doesn't
believe mobile suits are necessary for peace. "Aggressive solutions only
lead to more problems." In the absence of Heero(?), plans to build his
own Gundam. Isn't fighting for recognition, but believes that the people
will eventually see the rightness of the Gundams' ways. Dad is
frustrated that people aren't listening to him; the people like Oz,
cause it's shiny and new. The people of the colony object to the Winner
family's power, control of natural resources; vote natural resources to
be under Oz's control. Q:"But we're only... we're only doing the right
thing." Dad- refuses to let the satellite be used to make weapons;
disconnects satellite, the colony blows it/him up; Believes to the end
that aggression will not solve anything. "I'm not so attached to outer
space that I will compromise myself." Irea says he fought, wasn't
running away (even though he said he was running); calls Quatre kind
like his father. Q: "Kind people are shedding tears, but nobody
understands them." Quatre's freaky laugh is... freaky. o.O
Is Irea dead?? Quatre designs, builds, and pilots Wing Zero. Destroys an
Oz base on a resource satellite. Or rather a light haired pilot... o.0
Seems calm/in his right mind as he advises people to evacuate the colony
he's about to destroy. Zero's beam cannon breaks into two pieces.
Q:"You're afraid of dying aren't you? Then you shouldn't be fighting in
the first place!" Beam cannon is powerful enough to destroy colony. He
cries. "That's funny, I have tears in my eyes, but I'm not sad at all."
Mercurius/Vayeate attack Zero (not realizing how unstable Quatre is).
Warns Trowa to stay away from him; when Trowa approaches, shoots him
with the beam cannon. "Trowa, outer space has gone mad so I'll destroy
it all. I must destroy all the weapons... Tell the others to stay away.
Otherwise I'll kill them." ep25- When Heero approaches, Quatre fights
him. Q:"The colonies have teamed up with Oz. The colonies are my
enemies." Tells Heero to go away so he doesn't have to kill him. Heero
says that he must protect the colony. Quatre shoots Heero, intending to
kill, but Trowa jumps in front of the blast. T:Quatre, why don't you
realize what you're doing? This battle is unnecessary. Heero attacks
Quatre (rather than go after Trowa to help him). Trowa tells Quatre that
since the colonies have chosen to join with Oz then the Gundam's mission
is over. T: We all feel like you do, but it hits kind people harder.
"...accept it. Turn back into the kind guy you once were." Heero attacks
Zero, preventing Quatre from going to Trowa- He believes Quatre is still
a threat to the colony. Ep26- asks Trowa to forgive him. The Treize
Faction saves Heero and Quatre from being executed? AH, Treize Faction
is working for the Docs. Quatre wants to believe that Trowa is alive.
The Docs accuse Quatre of not being a perfect enough soldier to pilot
Zero. Quatre confesses to Heero that he is confused as to who is the
enemy and who are his allies. H:"The ones after your life and the
targets you try to defeat are the enemy. ...We're not mistaken. But it's
possible that this period of war has gone nuts." Quatre realizes that
war is human beings fighting against each other and that machines are
relied upon by weak people; he calls Zero a mistake. (Because it makes
you lose control, and without control a warrior cannot know who he's
fighting/what he's fighting for.) Uses Vayate to stop Heero from running
amuck in Zero. Q:If I've lost control because of that cockpit then I've
lost something important because of some worthless machinery!! "I don't
want to lose anything else that's important to me." ..."You lose sight
of the target when you fight alone." Lures Heero to attack him within
Vayate's shield, threatening to self destruct them both if Heero won't
listen to him. Q:These mobile suits are the least needed thing in outer
space! When Heero falls out of Zero glowing, Quatre touches him, absorbs
his glow and touches his(Quatre's) heart. Q:Who are you? You're from
earth? Am I right? Heero Let's go to earth. "The Earth was kind to us."
Vayate's self destruct destroys Zero and (a good portion of) the lunar
base. ep29- Quatre says that surviving is the one thing left they [he
and Heero] have to do. Says he and Heero should go to the Sanc Kingdom.
ep30- Q:"Wars are too self serving. The civilians that have nothing to
do with it suffer most." ep31- Relena's students mistake Heero for
Quatre's servant. ep33- Quatre plays sad piano, for Trowa... :( Quatre
talks with Noin- recognizes the importance of having those like Relena
who can unify people toward peaceful goals. Says that he (and Noin and
Heero) is too stained with blood to feel comfortable in the Sanc
Kingdom. ep35- Quatre goes to find Maganuacs to get Sandrock back to use
it to protect the Sanc Kingdom. ep38- Quatre goes to see Trowa. He feels
very bad about what happened, and leaves Trowa to Catherine. Comes back
to warn them about the battle. Says that Trowa saved his soul (kokoro)
and now he's trying to help others. Is very happy when Trowa says that,
even though he can't remember anything, he feels comfortable around
Quatre and Noin. ep41- Goes with Noin when Noin says she has to go talk
to Zechs. is happy Duo goes with them- likes groups. Is VERY happy when
Trowa says he'll cover them. Quatre doesn't like being alone, meanwhile
Heero is the polar opposite... They're going with Noin, Trowa peels off
to protect the colonies, the others meet Epyon. (lol, nobody ever
notices Noin. "It's Gundam 02 and 04!"...and, a friend!) Barge's
canon fires, hits a colony. They realize Epyon is not Heero. Noin holds
Zechs back so that Duo & Quatre can go take out Barge. Noin scolds
Zechs. Zechs is determined in his course to be stupid. Noin chases after
him, gets her butt saved by Trowa. Zechs destroys Barge. Quatre & Duo
are stunned that Barge is destroyed. Noin is sad for Zechs. 43- Quatre
is really really happy to see WuFei. 44-Recognizes that destroying Libra
won't stop the war. The Gundams are attacked by forces from Libra- the
4+Noin fight independently while Heero pursues his own agenda. 44- Is
terrified when Heero puts Zero on Sandrock. Uses Zero to organize the
Gundams, facing down Dorothy using a variant to organize the dolls.
Dude! How did they feel out each other?! Has he even ever met her
before?? (As soon as Quatre loads Zero, everyone listens to him whereas
before they weren't.) 45- Quatre disengages Zero, saying he doesn't need
it anymore. Either he's still scared shitless of it, or- more probable-
he's realized his potential and now has the confidence to command on the
battlefield, but either way the use of Zero still leaves a bad taste in
his mouth. 45- The boys work much better as a team now, listening to
Quatre. Quatre tells Duo to go after Hilde. 47- proves he's the brain;
Milliardo shoots him the "why haven't I killed you yet" look. Quatre,
Trowa, & Duo go aboard Libra to take it over. Wufei and Noin aren't
ready to leave the MS battle yet... 47- on Libra, finds Dorothy. 48-
Dorothy and Quatre engage in the ultimate face off of bloodthirsty vs.
sane- or as she says, Zero vs. human consciousness. He throws her off,
she attacks verbally. She stabs him, abdomen left side (?). In her
ranting she reveals her true purpose... Quatre calls her kind, kinder
than him. Q:You're like how I used to be. "You despise your own
kindness, and your own hatred of war." Says that Trowa taught him not to
hate his own kindness. Would rather fight with no chance of success than
sit by and do nothing. Is joined in his darkest hour by the Maguanacs.
49- Keeps fighting with other Gundams even when everyone else is running
away.
Conclusions:
Quatre is very intelligent and good at observing people, but he believes
very easily in the capacity of humanity for evil even as he hopes for
their capability for goodness. He is resigned to betrayal and failure,
and so is inordinately pleased to find allies/friends. Is kind of like
Relena and Heero's lovechild: he believes in peace but sees the
necessity of exercising force to protect it. I've not quite worked out
his connection to Trowa... Maybe, because Trowa has lived through some
of the worst humanity has to offer and he still believes in people like
Quatre, then Quatre can have faith in his ability to overcome his own
dark side.

WuFei
Loner. Respects Treize as an opponent(?). Is trying to define to himself
the meaning of battle/right and wrong. Justice? The right have to be
strong... Is unnerved by his initial defeat at Treize's hands. Feels
cheated when Treize "suicides" on him- like Goku and Homura. Tries to
destroy all fighters in outer space, believing them not necessary. Zero
tells him his enemies are Treize and Zechs. Doesn't respect Noin-
because she's a woman?/Thinks she's a weak soldier because she's a
woman. Scares hyenas away by yelling at them. grrrrr... Is a suspicious
bastard- is the only one not to fall for Treize's deception at New
Edwards. Says he will continue to fight Treize/Oz, even if he's on his
own. Trowa goes with Wufei to chase after Treize. Une faces him in a
mobile suit on Treize's ship. Conveniently carries a sword with him...
leaves it at Treize's? ep11- Sees Nataku as the dispenser of justice-
he's just along for the ride. Does not understand why Sally fights. Sees
himself as weak, while others think he is strong (because he has the
Gundam? Or, the Gundam "chose" him because he is strong) Calls her
Sally. ep17- Rejoins the fight, saving Duo and Quatre's butts. ep22- Has
a very cute cackle. ep23- Appreciates Heero's sense of humor. Says
Treize is getting hungry for mortal combat; I think he's projecting...
ep24- Suspects Trowa of betraying them. (Is immediately proven wrong.)
ep24- Is also suspicious of Quatre's return. ep35- shows up again,
training with Master Long. Says he's not strong enough to deserve Altron
(the new improved Nataku). I forgot how cute WuFei's voice is... =D
"Nataku, guide me down the correct path." "I'll define my own justice."
Attacks Zechs when Zechs tries to approach him to talk. Calls him an
evil that fights in outer space, and therefore his enemy. Fei says he'll
only listen to Zechs if Zechs can defeat him. ep36- starts randomly
destroying all mobile suits/dolls in an effort to remove war from space.
You know, other people use the word "justice" to describe him more often
than he himself ever uses it. Noin asks him to join with her and others
to help protect peace in outer space and earth; WuFei declines, saying
he doesn't take orders. 42- pops out of nowhere to kill some people.
"I'll decide whether you are justified! If you are justified you should
be able to defeat me." Some soldier recognizes that the Gundams fight
with Treize's ideal- he says that Oz and White Fang are wrong then
kamikazes into his ship. W:We can't stop now, there are still too many
fools in space. Sally and Heero pick up WuFei (his shenlong is busted).
What's WuFei's deal anyway? I think he doesn't like to accept help,
because accepting help means he's too weak to do it himself. (?) He
doesn't like getting roped into other people's plans either. He doesn't
like to make deals, particularly when he's not sure what he'll have to
do for his part- doesn't like getting forced into stuff. Likes being a
free agent, knows he works well that way. Also maybe, doesn't trust
himself and his own strength, so doesn't trust others either. And when
he does hook up with people, they tend to die. Heero seems to get him.
H:"He does things his own way."/Sal:"So I gathered." White Fang shows
up, Fei says they're looking for him. Heero offers him Zero to fight
them with (cause Fei's is busted). But tells him to be wary of the
cockpit system--- WuFei believes that the road he's on is the right one.
"If you think I'm wrong, use all your power and stop me!" Zero tells him
that if he continues to fight alone, he will die. And his enemies are
Treize and Zechs... "So is that my future?" It shows him the other
pilots- Duo, Trowa, Quatre, Heero- "So my path will become the same as
theirs." Decides to join Heero and Sally- Sally is happy. 45- WuFei is
good at chess. 47- Likes to be fighting- seems eager to join the battle
when the others decide that they'll join Treize in fighting Zechs;
doesn't seem reserved about being on Treize's "side." 48- Takes on
Treize. When Treize claims that WuFei understands him, Fei doesn't seem
to agree. Is... shocked that Treize knows that names of all the people
who died for him. Is shocked again when Treize attacks him, resulting in
Fei shishkabobing him with his shiny stick thing. W:Treize, kisama... "I
wasn't expecting to win."
Conclusions:
Has some of the same issues as Zechs- sees himself as unworthy as a
warrior, unable to protect what matters to him- but unlike Zechs I don't
think he hates himself. Is desperately seeking, like everyone, a
way to define what is right and who has the right to say so. Sees the
flaws of "might is right" but isn't sure what there is to replace this
mentality. I think he hates Treize because Treize looks like he knows
what's going on, like he's got everything figured out. And WuFei finds
that very annoying- he doesn't think that anyone can ever be that sure
and if someone is that sure then they must be wrong. I think he likes
being alone because he's too busy figuring himself out that he
doesn't have time to deal with other people and all their shit (I can
sympathize...), but Zero shows him that the only way he'll find the
answers he's looking for is working with others.

Noin
She is devoted to Zechs and knows his secret. Protects Relena for him.
Stands up to him when she feels he is VERY wrong. Will not fight him;
stands by him at the end. Hates war, but fights anyway- because she
believes in Zechs and his ability to create peace? Believes in his
desire to protect Relena, and thereby Relena's peace. Meets/respects
Sally. Loves outer space. Knows the number of DAYS it's been since she
last saw Zechs. Deliberately took lower marks in school to make Zechs
look better (his supposition). Would like him to lean on her. Is hard on
her men, because she wants them to be good. Has too much faith in the
ability of her training to protect her men. Kills in the name of
creating a new government (Oz) but wonders if the bloodshed is
necessary. ep9- Seriously doubts the benefits of Oz. She's a marksman.
ep11- Comes for Relena, to tell her about the Sanc Kingdom. ep16- Feels
she can't let Zechs or Heero die. Believes that Zechs fights to protect
Relena. ep29- skulks around ship; sees Sally's been captured. Ninja Noin
saves Sally; says they're fighting the same enemy. Says she can't say
where she's from, but her ruler is capable of bringing real peace to the
world. Says she will protect Relena even if she has to use foul play.
ep36- asks Relena not to be too hard on the people who fight to protect
her/her country/her ideals. ep41- Tells Quatre she has to go talk to
Zechs after the White Fang announcement; she believes that he has a good
reason for what he's doing and she's going to go find out what it is.
43- looks happy to see Sally again. Really happy. 47- Prevents Zechs
from attacking Peacemillion. Zechs actually turns his strike so he
doesn't hit her. Goes to Zechs and asks him to just let her stay by his
side. Brings Treize's grave flowers, tells Dorothy she believes Zechs is
still alive.
Conclusions:
Noin is one of the few people who loves outer space, possibly more than
she loves Earth. Has absolute faith in Zechs, despite this faith being
tried many times. But she doesn't hesitate to scold him when he's
wrong- her faith is not completely blind. Zechs does care about her and
his ability to protect her. She works better as a behind the scenes
agent than in straight battle, probably cause she sticks with her
"outdated" Taurus suit- which she continues to use because she doesn't
really like fighting, but isn't the type that can just sit by and
let stuff happen without her at least being there to intervene when she
feels that what is happening goes against what she, or Zechs, really wants.

Sally
She fights for what she sees is right. Strong beliefs. Has faith in the
Gundams. Mother/sister figure to Wufei? Is a sort of doctor?
Meets/respects Noin. 'I know a Gundam, you know a Gundam... we're best
friends.' Wants to protect the Gundams. Is intrigued by Heero. Believes
in Heero's indestructibility. ep11-after a rebellion against OZ in
China, she is working for the rebels and gets her ass saved by Wufei.
She's a former military doctor. She really understands WuFei and his
confusion after Treize beats him. Says that healing WuFei's heart is
more important than her life. Went to destroy Sandrock, met the
Magaunacs. Finds Wing on the bottom of the ocean. S:"The foundation of
our future will be built by these suits." ? Is definitely a rebel;
crashes her plane and plans to freeze to death rather than surrender to
Oz/(Romefeller?). Gives 01 to Noin; tells Noin she trusts her, Noin
doesn't have to explain. Sally goes off in search of another Gundam...
Ep42- Says of Milliardo that they'll have to fight him. "At least we
rate humanity a little higher than he does. " 43- gives Noin seductive
look.... or that could be her "cat that ate the canary" look. When Noin
says she'll have to lean on Sally in the upcoming battle, Sally says
they'll all depend on the Gundams "those boys have left their doubts
behind." 47- Is prepared to kamikaze Peacemillion to take down Libra;
evacuates civilians.
Conclusions:
Sally is one of the older people on the show so she is pretty set in
what she believes and stands by it. She knows her abilities and uses
them to her best advantage; she's not really a mobile suit fighter, so
she doesn't join the battle but goes around collecting Gundams. Has
faith in the Gundams.

Catherine
Trowa's sister. Protects him when he has amnesia. stands up for him to
Ringmaster in beginning. Is spunky. She throws knives at people for a
living... definitely not the wilting flower type. Heh, definitely big
sister type- she likes annoying Trowa. Senses when Trowa is about to
self detonate. ep38- Dragon-Catherine defends Trowa from Quatre. And
from falling lights. 43- the animals miss Trowa. Or they're sensing the
pending attack... from Oz(?) [Dude I so can't tell who's on who's side
anymore... ] She's such a revolutionary; the Ringmaster protects her,
tells her to shut up. C:"There's something so wrong about this, they're
trying to control everyone with force." Ringmaster: It's wrong, everyone
knows that but no one will do a thing because no one wants to risk
themselves. Trowa's different. While the Gundams debate their
powerlessness, Catherine says she has faith in them. She is Trowa's home
and his reason for fighting.
Conclusions:
Is so against the system; probably why she ran away to join the
circus. Cares about Trowa; is definitely his big sister. Believes in
governments being accountable to their people.

Dorothy
She likes war/fighting/dying in battle. Sees it, as Treize/Zechs, as the
only way of defining the self. Seems to really like/respect Treize...
Really really likes Relena. Perhaps attracted because their beliefs are
sooo different- is fascinated by the obscure... Is Dermail's
granddaughter. Likes the fighting- not so much about the outcome. But
does like winning. ep29- first ep. She has an amazingly pretentious
yellow car. Even more pretentious than Relena's. It's three times as
big. Pagan is suspicious of her. She's the same age as Relena. Noin says
to beware of her. D:"Hurry up and start a war!" "The action of fighting
is the most fascinating human aspect." 31- wait, did she just call
Relena "Relena" sans honorific, and then catch herself? Dorothy says she
daisuke's Relena. (dai/suke [big/like] is usually translated as "love,"
but is subtitled here as "fond.") ep34- Dorothy wishes Relena ganbatte
with the room full of creepy old men. I think she really does admire
Relena, in her own, bloodthirsty way. She also wants/needs Relena to
prove herself on the "battlefield." Says that she knew dolls were
useless to fight a war. "Wars are meaningless unless people fight them."
ep38- Is Dorothy wearing black because she wants to contrast Relena's
white dress or... ? ep39- Dorothy is behind the plot to put Relena in
charge of the World Nation. "Because our era must be guided in the
correct direction." Dude, why are all the old men listening to Dorothy?
ep40- Dude, is it just me or did Dorothy's eyebrows suddenly get more
evilish? She's really very manipulative, especially with Dermail. I
don't think she respects him very much. Maybe she likes Relena because
conflict is drawn to her (Relena). Dermail recognizes Dorothy's flair
for leadership/manipulation. She does seem sad/surprised when Dermail
dies, but says that she won't cry. Because she recognizes he was
brave... or some shit? Whatever... he didn't do anything except have the
courtesy to die before he got too annoying. 41- is still stalking
Relena, plans on following her into space. (Relena is following Zechs,
or is it Heero?) 42- her shuttle hails Libra/ where Zechs is. "Remember
playing with Treize when we were kids?" He says to fire on her. "Once
upon a time there was a person with two names." "I want to be with you
Milliardo-sama. I want to imprint this war on my memory. After all, this
is going to be the final war." 43- I think she's supposed to be, like,
Zechs' little clone... She's fully prepared to sacrifice people for an
ideal. "It'll be so beautiful!" I wonder if she has any "better to be
the right hand of the devil than be in his path" thoughts going on...
Dorothy has Libra fire on Peacemillion- misses, barely. Zechs rushes
back to spank her. She is unnerved by her defeat at Quatre's hands. 45-
Is bragging to Relena to make herself feel better. Is either much taller
than Relena or is wearing really big shoes... Tries to psyche out Quinze.
What the hell is her deal? It's like she really doesn't care in the
least who wins, as long as there's death going on. 46- Really doesn't
want Milliardo to fire on Treize with the canon, tries to stop him. 47-
Keeps her head when Peacemillion crashes into Libra while Quinze is
bemoaning the loss of his cannon. 48- Her father died in a war. Okay I
think I get Dorothy: She wants to stop war, but like Treize and Zechs
she thinks that the only way to do this is to make people sick of it.
When yelling with Quatre she calls war meaningless and horrible. She
says she wants to stop people from dying meaninglessly like her father.
So, I think she parrots Treize's belief that the warrior finds himself
in battle but I don't think she really believes it. And maybe that's why
she hangs out with Relena- because she really is looking for another
way. But she's insane, so it doesn't so much work out. Maybe she's the
personification of Quatre on Zero.... Trowa tells her she was probably
correct, but it wouldn't bring about peace anyway. Says that it's sad
that she can't cry. Dorothy visits Zechs "grave." Tells Noin it's her
last time, she doesn't want to live in the past anymore, and she asks
why Noin, who brought Treize roses, never pays her respects to
Milliardo.
Conclusions:
She's insane. She's been so twisted around in her head by so much stuff
that I don't think she even knows what she really believes. She parrots
Zechs' beliefs because she thinks he is strong and she should follow
him. In a lot of ways, she is to Zechs what Une is to Treize.
She's "supposed" to be connected to Quatre... but the only way I can see
that is that they represent polar opposites- he's pretty confident in
himself and in the need for peace; she has no idea how to get what she
wants, but she's trying out Zechs' way of thinking for now without
really understanding it (because he doesn't really understand it either,
because he stole it from Treize).

Une
She is completely devoted to Treize; understands him. Slightly MPD... Is
a rational person; after Treize tells her that he wants her to be strong
on her own she is less fanatical. Lives after his death with no attempt
at suicide, because that is what he would want(?) Is jealous of Zechs
when Treize compliments him. talks to herself... Tells herself to relax
(ep5?). o.O Believes that Treize is fully capable of determining the
future of the world and that it will follow his chosen path. When
working for Treize, really LIKES killing things. Fanatically protects
him. Does NOT like Zechs, or Noin. Une's idea of "not military" is to
add a rose to her uniform... Chilled-Une has no concept of personal
space. Dude, her voice even changes when she switches out of chilled-Une
mode... Dude, she is sooo bipolar... Ep 20- has issues with what Trowa
says to her/ reconciling it with what she believes. ep22- chilled-Une
doesn't recognize Milliardo as Zechs. Tells Treize she will use the
mobile dolls in place of Treize's soldiers, so that he can rule the
world. She doesn't understand why he's left the world in a state of
confusion, says she has laid out a new future for Treize. U:"You are
capable of loving all people. You have a heart that can make you a god."
T: "Lady, please come back to me. The Lady Une I was so fond of." Une
refuses to send mobile dolls to earth. She says they will only cause
unnecessary bloodshed; all the earth needs is to be ruled by someone
strong- she thinks this should be Treize. "But His Excellency has
refused his mission. "True public order cannot be served unless His
Excellency comes to space." Nichol counsels her that what Treize wants
from her is someone to support him, not to try to guide him. "Without
fighting, nothing can be created." Without Treize to direct her, she
resorts to fighting. U:...No one can stop the future, not even Treize.
But I'll try and make things go the way he wants. "I can sacrifice my
life for that. I'll fight and win. For Treize's future. For my future."
ep24- wants to use the skills of the captured Gundam pilots. Sends
Mercurius and Vayaete to take down Zero. Observes that the Gundams keep
fighting. I think she knows about Trowa (that he's a Gundam pilot
infiltrating her command)... (actually, I think she always knew...)
ep25- U:I understand why Treize doesn't like the mobile dolls..."Treize
fell in love with people, and with the death of people. Something about
death intensely appeals to people's emotions. The emotions that the dead
give, denying or affirming battle. High emotions lead to extreme
choices. The act of receiving death is a true soldier's demeanor.
...It's not that mobile dolls transcend death, they're merely replacing
those who are afraid to die. ...It doesn't matter if you win or lose.
Emotions are honed by continuing to fight. And a day comes when lost
souls are rewarded."/Tubarov:I fail to understand what you're getting
at./Une:That's why you and I are enemies! She releases the Gundam pilots
(who are suffocating under Tubarov's orders). Tubarov shoots her.
Une(v.o.):"The charm of you pilots threw everything out of order. Your
pure hearts are suffering in a world where answers cannot be found.
Those that think tenderly about you in that situation realize just how
powerless they themselves are. They become hasty and are crushed. But
please continue shining, brave warriors. And let me continue loving
you." ep28- says that her original mission in outer space was to subdue
the forces of the alliance (Which had already collapsed). U:After doing
this, Treize's dream should have been realized, but he and Duke Dermail
disagreed. U:"That's when I realized the purpose of battles isn't
limited to making ideals into reality. I know this was what Treize
wanted me to understand." Ep46- Wakes up, takes Wing, goes to Treize and
takes the hit from Zechs' canon meant for Treize. 47- Is now commander
on the Treize-side space station. I think she alone really gets
Treize... 48- Surrenders when Treize is killed. 49- Seems calm in the
face of Treize's death. Carries out Treize's last wishes, to destroy all
mobile suits. Sally observes that Treize's goal was total pacifism as
well. Une offers herself for Relena's revenge. Makes speech to all with
visuals of Zechs/Heero battle.
Conclusions:
Une's bipolarness stems from the fact that she cannot understand what
Treize is after; once she does figure this out her devotion to him allows
her to become a whole person utterly dedicated to his cause. I seriously
think she is the only one who ever completely understands Treize, and he
knows it. He cares about her deeply and knows how much she cares about
him. I'm hesitant to use the word love... But she is utterly devoted to
him, and their relationship transcends boundaries (such as
"professional" or "boyfriend" or even "intimate"). Because she
truly understands him, even after he dies she is strong knowing that she
can carry on his dream for the world. She accepts that he had to die,
had to be the sacrifice, for this dream to be realized.

Hilde
First appears in ep23, spouting off Oz propaganda. Invites Duo to come
to the next testing and join up. Catches Duo trying to sneak onto an Oz
shuttle. Quits Oz after a stirring talking to from Duo. "I decided to
live out my life, believing in my chosen path." Keeps saying she's
prepared to die. Duo reminds her to not die in vain; she reminds him to
do the same. ep32- is really dedicated to Duo. She seems to give her
loyalty very easily. 45- Sneaks onto Libra. Approaches Relena on the
Noin/Sally pretext (I know a Gundam, you know a Gundam... let's be
friends). She's doing sabotage cause she can't pilot a Gundam. Relena
says that Hilde seems strong- she's helping the Gundams more than Relena
can.
Conclusions:
Hilde is very young. Unlike some of the G-boys, she hasn't been forced
to grow up early until now. She is doing an admirable job of it,
dedicating herself to her chosen cause and helping out as she can. She
hasn't grown out of the "immortality of youth" stage quite yet I don't
think, but she's got time.
